The Australia Bushfires of 2019-2020 shocked the world. With more than 15,000 fires across every Australian state, nearly three billion animals were killed or displaced and 33 people were killed.
Watching an entire continent be engulfed in flames on the other side of the world, made me feel entirely helpless. A native to Northern California, I have experienced both the impact and tragedies of wildfires. As a fellow climate refugee, I knew I had to find a way to help.
I created this original art series of watercolor animals, in honor of the millions of animals lost from the fires for a silent auction. All proceeds were donated to help aid Australia services to help injured animals. To date, together we have raised $1,200.
The most important thing from this project has been the dozens of conversations about the real threat and impact that climate change is imposing on our world. Combatting climate change is something we all must face and contribute to together if we stand a fighting chance.
